Until your last breath

You must want to spend the rest of your life with yourself first.
— Rupi Kaur

Until your very last breath,
there will be something, or someone,
that seems more important than tending to your Self.

There will be meetings to attend,
work to be at.
There will shopping to do,
washing to fold.
There will be meals to be cooked,
Phone calls to answer.

There will be gifts to buy,
Emails to send.
There will be paperwork to be filed,
Appointments to be booked.

Until your very last breath,
you will be made to feel as if everything and everyone else,
is more important than tending to your Self.

Until you decide that you're the most important person in your life,
this will be you.

...but I hope it isn't.
